Nearly a year ago, my wife and I relocated from Long Island to New York City. After residing in Sea Cliff for 17 years, we decided to sell our home and return to the city. Change can stir a multitude of emotions—excitement, anxiety, fear, and hope. The prospect of change was exhilarating but also accompanied by considerable apprehension. Transitioning to NYC meant scaling down from our spacious suburban house to a smaller apartment, raising concerns about its impact on our relationship. Despite these uncertainties, we embraced the relocation with curiosity and a sense of adventure.

Initially, we felt like children in a candy shop . The city's vibrant energy, diverse culinary scene, and myriad activities starkly contrasted with our suburban life. We enjoyed discovering neighborhoods, meeting new people, and spending more time with old friends and stepchildren. Everything appeared fresh and invigorating. As the novelty began to fade, we understood that sustaining this excitement required ongoing effort. It's easy to slip into monotony without fully embracing change.

This journey has imparted valuable lessons on managing change, both personally and professionally. As leaders and senior professionals, we often encounter changes that disrupt our routines and challenge our comfort zones. Whether self-imposed or externally driven, change demands a proactive approach to harness its benefits. 

🔸 Know and Articulate Your Why: Before we moved, my wife and I asked ourselves: Why? Why relocate? We sought a new experience to break from routine. Why does this matter? Because life can become repetitive, causing us to lose curiosity and openness to new possibilities. This troubled us because we value personal growth and fulfillment. Knowing our reasons helped give our lives purpose and meaning.
